JonElias Zine
This zine will focus on the romantic relationship between Jonathan Sims and Elias Bouchard – as monstrous, Gothic, or loving as it can be! The classic enemies to lovers, a worshipful love, voyeurism, a dark office romance… with so much to chew on, there’s a reason why it’s an enduring ship, with dedicated fans both old and new! And so, we want to celebrate the ship and bring together all those who love this alluring relationship. The zine itself, for both participants and customers, will be for those 18 and up, due to our allowance of NSFW themes. We will be releasing the zine as a free pdf, with the possibility of at-cost physical books and merchandise.
Moderators
Mod Hosta joined the fandom in 2020 and has supported fandom community projects ever since his purchase of the first JonElias zine. Hosta has also been a moderator for ArCon every year since its inception! He loves all things dark, spooky, and co-dependent. Hosta is mainly a horror writer, but enjoys the schmoopy stuff, as well. He will be managing our zine's participating writers, and you can find him on AO3 and Twitter @paradisepuppet.
Mod Carrie has been in the TMA fandom for close to six years and has been obsessed with JonElias for almost as long! She is also a huge sap, which kind of goes against the whole canon-typical JE thing, but she makes it work. She also created and heads the TMA fan-convention ArchiveCon. Carrie will be overseeing our participating Artists.
You can find her as Emperiocism on Tumblr and Twitter.
FAQ
What is this?
This is a zine focusing on the relationship between Jon and Elias from The Magnus Archives. It will be released as a free digital copy, but if we're able to we'll release it as a physical book with possible merch. What is the content rating?
NSFW and 18+.Do you allow dead dove content?
Yes! Any dead dove content will be published as a separate, digital-only expansion to the zine, so as not to limit our ability to find an easily accessible, affordable physical print service for participant hard copies. Is there any content that is not permitted?
We will not include any content featuring underage characters or bestiality. How do you define Dead Dove for this project?
For the purpose of this project, please consider any material including extreme gore, pain, or suffering, non-con, or incest to be Dead Dove content. If you’re unsure if your idea would fall under this category or not, just ask the mods! What types of fanworks will be included in the zine?
We hope to include fiction ranging anywhere from 100-5000 words, full page art, sketchy art pages, and short comics. What can I write about/draw?
Anything you like, as long as the subject of the work is the romantic relationship between Elias Bouchard and Jon Sims. How will the zine be delivered?
The zine will be digital, including a “Dead Dove Expansion Pack,” if we have enough participants who would like to produce that type of content. Will there be merch or physical copies?
We hope so! ….But there are a few things to keep in mind:Please note that this is not only a not-for-profit project, but a FREE project. We want this project to be as easy for participants as possible, and accessible to all members of the community, regardless of their ability to pay. This means the MAIN deliverable will be a no-cost PDF of the zine. That said, we are lovers of physical media, especially when it comes to being able to hold our own creations in our hands. We aim to produce physical copies of the zine for participants, which will be purchased by participants, at cost. The details of this will be discussed among participants, and voted on by participants. If we find that we are able to offer an extremely limited number of copies for pre-order by non-participants, we’ll update our social media so you have the chance to order! The same goes for merch. Depending on participant interest, we may offer small, flat merch, such as stickers, bookmarks, or small prints, for participants, at cost + shipping. If we are able to offer extras for purchase, we’ll update our social media accordingly.I want to participate, but am concerned about the cost. Should I still apply?
Absolutely! This project is, first and foremost, a no-cost labour of love. All participants will vote on options for print types and costs, and all will receive the free PDF, no matter what is ultimately decided for the print copies. All participants will be asked to anonymously estimate how much they’d be comfortable paying for a print copy, with the option to purchase copies for participants who can’t afford to. If you are unable to pay anything, you will be able to anonymously let us know that, as well, so that a participant who has opted to purchase for others can cover you. What if I can’t purchase a copy and there is no one who can purchase one for me?
You will receive the PDF copy. Unfortunately, in this situation, we would be unable to provide you with a physical copy. Since we are not crowdfunding this project and not taking mass pre-orders, the funds available are only those which each individual participant is comfortable providing. Why have you decided not to crowdfund or open pre-orders?
There are a few big reasons for this:1. Accessibility: We don’t want anyone to be unable to engage with the zine. We LOVE the Jonelias fandom, and this project is our love letter. Every single person who wants to read the zine should be able to, and no person should feel left out of the experience. A no-cost PDF is the best way to accomplish this.2. Creative control: For better or worse, the stakes are higher when there’s money involved in a project. We want our mods and our participants to be able to work from a place of love and passion, not a place of concern with making an audience happy, or avoiding disappointment from paying customers.3. Security: We don’t want anyone to feel any obligation to provide information that would reveal their real identity to anyone on the team. The more money and physical items involved, the more likely it becomes that the sharing of personal information will be required.**Yes, to purchase a participant physical copy of the zine, you will need to be comfortable paying the mod team by PayPal, and providing your mailing address so that we can send you a copy. That said, the choice to purchase a physical copy is completely at your discretion, since the PDF will be available to all.I’m not participating, but I’d like to follow the zine’s progress. Where can I do that?
Please follow us on Tumblr or Twitter.Where can I contact you for more information?
